The Wine:
From one of our oldest vineyards at the ‘Gate’ site, vines on their own roots. Low but self-regulated canopy growth makes this vineyard reach sugar ripeness very slowly and is a late pick even by cabernet standards.
The fruit was destemmed and kept as whole berry to undergo a cold soak for a few days to maintaining brighter fruit before frequent punch-downs throughout the peak of fermentation. It then undertook a post-ferment maceration for a total of 34 days on skins.
Pressed to barrique for 12 months and then racked with light lees to larger format barrel for a further 12 months. Bottled unfined and unfiltered in April 2026.
"A distinctly medium bodied, aromatic Cabernet throwing scents of mulberry, lilac, brown leafs and spice. It feels elegant and pretty just to smell, but the palate delivers rails of pumice stone-like tannin and juicy blackcurrant. This will age superbly!" - James M, Best Cellars Team
