The Wine:
Sourced from millennium plantings of Bob’s selection on the Hardy family Vineyard, this wine is a contemporary style of Blewitt Springs Shiraz. The Blewitt Springs sub-region is more elevated and cooler than the McLaren Vale floor which gives the wines a higher level of natural acidity, great freshness, and bright lively colour. The millennium vines are symbolic of the multi-generational aspirations Ox has for his family’s vineyard and the Ox Hardy wines.
2022 was a cool growing season with mild temperatures during harvest. Sourced from twenty-year-old vines in one of my favourite parts of the vineyard. The fruit was left to ferment in open top fermenters, with daily plunging down. It was then transferred to old and new oak barrels (15%) for 15 months maturation. The 2022 show the uniqueness of the Upper Tintara vineyard terroir; a medley of inky blue fruit and a savoury and ferruginous heart which my father used to say was good for the soul.
