Region: Eden Valley Grapes: Shiraz First Glance: Elegant, Perfumed, Blue Fruits, Fine Tannin
The Wine: he Naimanya vineyard sits high in the tiny sub-region of Flaxman’s Valley on soils of sandy loam, gravel and quartz over clay. At 520m elevation it is one of the highest Shiraz vineyards in South Australia.
Fair winter rains and a cool summer gave a healthy crop of excellent quality. Hand picked on the 7th April, 70% destemmed, 30% whole bunch, pressed to French oak, 10% new, matured for 20 months in barrel.
Year on year one of our favourite expressions of this grape at Best Cellars. It is so complete, from the nose to the palate and it's final flourish - it's deeply pleasurable and elegant in every sense of the word. Pretty and perfumed, the nose is full of detailed blue fruits and violets, with savoury dried herbs and bergamot. The palate is slinky and rich with fruit and spice. Dusty earthy tannins close off to a long lingering finish.
