The Wine: Pungent and ripe, the Sonnenuhr features the most tropical nose of the bunch, leaning more into the papaya (almost durian?) realm which is quite interesting. Lime blossom as well, and lime leaf herbal tones with a talcy mineral note. The palate is shimmery, with a beautiful oscillation between ripe pear and almond blossom, and focused acid.
The Review: Anne Krebiehl MW, Vinous - 94pts “Smoke and reduction still cloud the nose of the 2021 Riesling Wehlener Sonnenuhr Kabinett, but golden, aromatic, textured fruit somehow combines pink grapefruit and russet pear peel, golden Mirabelle and lime. There's wonderful ripeness channelled with absolute precision on an elegant, smooth palate. Subtle fruit echoes long, real elegance.”
