Region: Burgundy
Grapes: Pinot Noir
First Glance: Concentrated, Svelte, Sweet Spice, Dark Fruit
The Wine:
With their dense, clay-based soils, Chassagne’s lower lying climats are ideally suited to reds. This wine comes from a 1.06-hectare plot in the middle of the village in the 1960s. Olivier worked with roughly 80% whole bunches, raised the cuvée in used barrels and did not sulphur the wines until bottling. Olivier Lamy’s reds are getting more precise and offering more finesse; this is a terrific example. Again, you find the darker fruit of the year, blackcurrant mostly, framed by loads of sweet spice.
The Review:
Bill Nanson, Burgundy Report
"A broad swathe of aroma – that’s rather attractive. Large in scale – the tannin more present but here without grain. Deeply mouth-watering flavour, leaving my teeth very silky. That’s so impressive – a great villages even – but keep it 5 years if you can…”
