Region: Chianti Classico, Italy
Grapes: 90% Sangiovese, 7% Canaiolo, 3% Colorino
First Glance: Elegant and medium-bodied Chianti
Acclaim: 92 Points
With a history stretching back to 1090, the Dievole estate has long been producing Chianti from their current 126 hectares of vines. After recent modernisations beginning in 2012 and a change in philosophy at the estate, the wines have never looked better. Dievole recieved organic certification in 2017.
The Estate's Classico balances Sangiovese with two of the supporting Chianti grapes Canaiolo and Colorino for a classic blend. Vines are from vineyards at 300 - 420 masl, on soils primarily of limestone and marl. The wine ferments gently in cement eggs and rests for 13 months in large format, untoasted French oak.
A pure and refined style of Chianti Classico.
The Review:
92 points, James Suckling
Clean berry and cherry nose with some floral notes. Medium-bodied with fresh, silky tannins and bright acidity, which push lots of fruit though the lightly firm finish. From organically grown grapes. Compact and dense package, but good length here. Drink now, or hold for a year or two.
