Charles Heidsieck, or Champagne Charly amongst friends, is renowned for making broad and sumptuous champagnes from their Unesco world heritage listed chalk Crayeres, deep below the streets of Reims.
A blend of 40% Pinot Noir, 40% Chardonnay and 20% Meunier, crafted with no less than 50% reserve wines, of which a portion have been aged in old Burgundy oak casks for added depth and complexity. This "entry level cuvee" is aged for an incredible 7 years on lees before release - something unheard of for this price point, at other addresses! This unique commitment to high quality makes the Brut Reserve a favourite of many a top establishment around the world, and a truly gastronomic wine.
96 Points, James Halliday
Charles Heidsieck might be nicknamed Poor Man’s Krug given the astonishing number of vintages in the reserve wines, their age (10 years in tank), and the seven years the wine spends on lees once blended and bottled. It is an exceptional wine in the mouth, supple, layered, complex and long.
