Region: Great Western, Victoria
Grapes: Riesling
First Glance: Exotic, Mineral, Fresh, Vibrant
The Wine:
Rieslings from Great Western produce flavoursome, elegantly structured, spectacularly age-worthy examples, which stand confidently alongside some of the most outstanding Australian wines of this variety. In recent times, the style has evolved to match the continental climatic conditions to a beautifully balanced wine with texture and aromatics.
Pronounced aromas of apricot blossom, coupled with a touch of apple, lemon, and pineapple. The palate consists of primary fresh fruits, a medley of apricot, peach, guava, citrus pith, and lemon sorbet. Unmistakable intensity throughout that is balanced with green apple acidity. This dry style is light bodied, with great intensity.
The Review:
James Halliday's Top 100 Wines of 2023 - 95pts
"Victoria’s Great Western region is firmly established as one of the most consistent riesling growers (outside of traditional regions). Whiplash-fast out of the blocks, with its mix of citrus, apple and slate to the fore, this wine will coast through to 2034."
