First Glance:
Oaked and fleshy Etna Bianco

Monteleone is a small family business consisting of Giulia Monteleone, her partner Benedetto Alessandro and her father Enrico. Started in 2017, the young estate draws on the very special volcanic terroir found on the slopes of Mt Etna, Sicily, to make wines of structure and concentration.

The Anthemis Etna Bianco is made from grapes of Carricante cultivated in the Contrada Sant’Alfio, on the eastern slope of the volcano, at 700m altitude. Like the Rumex red of the estate, it is a modern take on Etna wines, and is made with a greater amount of new French oak and lees work. An assertive cross between fleshy white burgundy and mineral Etna Bianco.

The Best Cellars View:
This could not be more different to the regular Etna Bianco, which is lean and precise. The Anthemis pack a serious punch with heady notes of toasted oak and clarified butter of the nose, followed by more intricate layers of fresh herbs, yeast lees and creamy depth. Broad, yet just shy of full bodied, its laser acidity holds everything in check and balances the textured palate, which finishes on a mix of creamy notes and salty crunch.
