The Wine
From the second vintage for the MMAD team, the wetter 2022 season was a blessing, it meant excellent soil moisture going into summer, resulting in a flourishing of cover crops - providing necessary nourishment to beneficial bugs. Come Spring, there was perfect flowering, with an average of 24°C and no surprises leading up to harvest. Overall the vintage was hallmarked with low yields and a cool to mild summer providing notable intensity, freshness and depth across the range.
More wholebunch than last year, about 33%, to dial up the savoury complexity. There is old vine concentration here. You can sense it. You're first greeted with violets, red fruits and earthy minerals. This is followed by an opulence on the palate - red-blue berries, cinnamon, and dusty cacao. It's all generously layered, complex, with fine moreish tannins, the savoury notes keep the fruit in check.
97 Points, Campbell Mattinson, The Wine Front
“If there was such a thing for single vineyard, vintage, Aussie Shiraz, this wine would be classified as first growth."
