The Wine:
The names refers to the rod and spur method of pruning, blend of Shiraz Cabernet this year. The classic Aussie blend. This wine is a real chameleon. The blend is sometimes dominated by Shiraz, other times by Cabernet. The Shiraz component giving spice and soft tannins and the Cabernet tightening up the palate and adding a lifted chocolate mint character.
The Review:
Shiraz and Cabernet, the classic Aussie blend, and gee, it works well.
Blackberry, blackcurrant, raspberry, some mint, a little tobacco along with some liquorice. It’s medium-bodied, soft and approachable, with fine-grained tannin, a minty black and red fruited succulence, balanced acidity, and while it’s kind of juicy, it also has the rather fetching autumnal character about it, along with a chocolate box richness, and a finish of excellent length. A little raw almond carries on the finish. Supple, charming, and very nice to drink.
