The Wine:

Evan and Tina Gobell’s Stonewell Road vineyard sits at 255m elevation on red loam over clay peppered with ironstone. It has a gentle westerly aspect and is pruned to grow low yielding, early ripening and intensely flavoured fruit.

Fair winter rains and a cool summer gave a healthy crop of excellent quality. Handpicked on the 17th of February, 83% destemmed, 17% whole bunch, wild fermented in open fermenter and foudre, pressed to French oak, matured for 20 months in barrel (17% new).

This is textbook Barossa Valley Shiraz from a stellar vintage - with elegance and fruit power hand in hand. Ripe blue and black fruits mingle with graphite and woodsmoke. Clove and cardamom support the plush fruit adding complexity, while the polished dark chocolate-like tannins drive the wine to a long finish. Utterly brilliant.
