First Glance: Dark Fruited, Spiced, Structured
The Wine:
Sourced from the Ahrens vineyard in Vine Vale. All destemmed and fermented for around 3 weeks on skins before being pressed to 30% new oak and the balance to well-seasoned barrels for 12 months of maturation.
On the nose, dusty cinnamon and anise spiced plums, dark raspberries, choc ruffled biscuit, crushed rock, a touch of tapenade, with sweeter vanilla notes and some blood orange/fresh pomegranate in the background. Raspberry, plums, pomegranate, blood orange and amaro on the palate which are slightly salivating into dusty fine tannins. Some more serious structure in there, but that lighter acid keeps the wine moving through the mouth right into the finish.
