Region: Adelaide Hills Grapes: Sangiovese First Glance: Fine Boned, Complex, Savoury
The Wine: Fully destemmed, 2.5 weeks on skins, then pressed to relatively seasoned 500 & 300 litre barrels for 12 months maturation. A slightly lighter shade this year, with a touch sweeter core and more salivating rather than drying tannins.
Plums, cherry, cinnamon, autumnal leaf, tobacco, loose black leaf tea with a touch of meaty and gamey notes on the nose. Plums, cherries, rhubarb, vanilla lead into firm & salivating tannins, with slight spice, tobacco-ish herbal notes and gaminess. There's a lively / briskness to the acid line and an ever so sweeter core to the fruit profile – this is again due to the small seedless berries – boosting the alcohol, but the wine drinks more in the early 13% range in terms of phenolic maturity, acid and fruit profile.
