Living Roots is the joining of forces between Sebastian Hardy, great-great-great grandson of national icon Thomas Hardy, and New York-born Colleen. The young couple met at Hardy’s Tintara when Colleen worked as cellar hand during vintage in 2014, and in 2016 they started their own vinous joint venture. Uniquely, the two make wines both from South Australia and from the Finger Lakes district in New York state, with small winery operations and tasting rooms set up in Adelaide Hills and Rochester NY, respectively. The overall style is free-spirited and innovative, but always incredibly well-made, and the range constantly evolves with rolling vintages and fruit sources.
A play off the classic Shiraz Cabernet blend, but in no way typical; This one’s a blend of Shiraz [42%], Montepulciano [34%], Cabernet Sauvignon [17%] and Grenache [7%]. Like a good soil profile, these diverse varieties and regions come together to form a complimentary whole. Bright fruit and spice from Hills Shiraz is balanced with tannin structure, dark fruits and savoury edges from Montepulciano and Cabernet Sauvignon, and softened by juicy Grenache.

Shiraz, montepulciano, durif, cabernet sauvignon, grenache. A melange of South Australia. Looking to a heartier, richer style. For the bistros and drinking with gusto etc etc.
Lusty, slurpable red of joyous, dark berry fruits, ripe and rollicking, good dusting of clove and cinnamon spice, a bit of candied blood orange, and a smudge of dusty tannin lending character too. Such an Aussie feel to this wine, generous and open, lush and utterly delicious. Quietly complex too.
