Region: Murrumbateman, Canberra District
Grapes: Gamay
First Glance: Crunchy, Cranberry, Alpine Herbs, Fresh
Acclaim: 92pts
The Wine:
Partial carbonic maceration for 10 days, then plunged down until dry. Pressed off and matured on new and used French oak barriques for 12 months. Only 85 dozen made!
The ring in as its the only non-2022 wine in this release. More weight and colour than the beloved Tumbarumba version as Murrumbateman is a little warmer and drier. Certainly carries the beautiful fragrance the variety is know for as well as acidity and light texture.
The Review:
Mike Bennie, The Wine Front - 92pts
"Crisp and clean, bright and fresh. Tart cherries, cranberry, truffle, brambly blackberry and some kombu-umami-like characters. Lighter weight and fruity, not quite savoury but that herbal lilt is pleasing and counters the red fruit swishes well. Easy drinking style, refreshing and cool. Not particularly complex, but all the pleasure elements in place."
