Region: Eden Valley
Grapes: Montepulciano
First Glance: Dark Brambly Fruit, Herbal, Peppery

The Wine:
Sourced from Tim Fechner's property, just north of Angaston in the Eden Valley. Grown on limestone soil, +/- 380m above sea level, picked at the close of the season - mid April. Around 10% whole bunch fermentation this year all in aid of getting a little softer, rounder mouthfeel to match the higher tannin as a result of the increase in sunshine coming through the reduced canopy this year. Elevage for 12 months in used French hogsheads.

A somewhat blue fruited spectrum of fruit on the nose, with classic Montepulciano brooding depth - plums, boysenberry, background of amaro peel, spice and alpine herb. Full upfront palate with plums, blueberry, dried cherries, pomegranate, some fine mouth coating tannins throughout the mouth, but still finds it’s counterpoint in the centre of the tongue. A fresh lively acid tails off to a slight amaro spiced notes. Again, the fruit is a slight shade sweeter than the fruit profile of previous iterations…
