Region: Macedon Ranges
Grapes: Pinot Noir
First Glance: Fine Boned, Elegant, Concentrated, Red Fruits
The Wine:
As the name suggests, fruit from original 1995 planting. Simply made with mostly destemmed fruit, generally pumped over and some hand plunging. Matured 12 months in 25% new French oak. Bottled under DIAM 30 closure. Super fine and more delicate than the HD but still with amazing intensity.
The Review:
Mike Bennie, The Wine Front - 95pts
"Rhubarb, green mulberry, sappy herbs, white pepper, a quenching affect but also a little drying (like a slice of persimmon can do). This is a curious but compelling, really enjoyable wine, but it sure sits outside the box. Yes, a bit of red berry fruitiness through all this too, and a touch of rose petal in the perfume alongside aforementioned characters, but with a bigger dose of white pepper there. A little thickness and a haze in texture. Like a humid, cool, foggy morning. Tastes also like a wet orchard, flower patch and adjacent veggie garden. Really refreshing. Plenty to see in each sip. This is very good in its way. Nourishing and super drinkable. Love it."
