The Wine:
This blanc de noirs is made entirely from Pinot Meunier, one of two red grapes frequently used in Champagne production. The grapes, grown here on the Leriche-Moulun family estate in the Marne Valley near Épernay, are carefully pressed with minimal contact between skins and juice to avoid colouration. It’s the body and ‘vinosity’ though that provides the tell in the drinking, with more body and structure than white dominant blends.
The nose here is vibrant with a rich and powerful aromatic expression, wild strawberries giving way to a luscious blend of yellow peach and raspberry, quite typical of Meunier, with hints of apple and violet. This richness is evident from the first sip, crisp and fresh on the open, with notes of mandarin, blood orange, and orange zest on a lithe, rounded palate, beautifully framed by refreshing citrus acidity. Good length is supported by a judicious dosage, leaving a pleasant fruit sweetness on the finish.
