Region: Etna, Sicily
Grapes: Carricante
First Glance: Mineral, saline, precise
Monteleone is a small family business consisting of Giulia Monteleone, her partner Benedetto Alessandro and her father Enrico. Started in 2017, the young estate draws on the very special volcanic terroir found on the slopes of Mt Etna, Sicily, to make wines of structure and concentration.
The Etna Bianco, is pure Carricante, and is made in a steely and tight style, without the use of oak. It is the very essence of the precision and energy so often found in these volcanic mountain wines.
The Best Cellars View:
A reluctant and tight nose, giving off subtle aromas of wet stone laced with pure lemon juice and faint green herbs. On the palate, an explosion of laser-like acidity, crushed rock minerality, pristine salinity and the faintest hint of yeast lees on the grippy finish. This is a wine all about cut, precision and coiled energy, and will leave you salivating for another sip.
