The Wine:
The Australian winemaking tradition of multi-regional blending is on show here, with all three regions complimenting each other. Beechworth fruit makes up the majority of this wine. A milder and later-than-average growing season was the dominant factor in Beechworth for vintage 2022. Above-average rainfall throughout 2021 made for a challenging growing season with constant disease pressure. January was wet, with 140mm falling for the month. Thankfully, the rain cleared for February and March, allowing the vineyard to dry off. These conditions resulted in excellent natural acidity. The Hunter experienced a season with many similarities to 2021 but overall of higher quality. La Nina once again made for a cool, wet season, albeit tempered by consistent breeze, which kept the canopy dry and disease at bay. It was one of the latest harvests in the Hunter in many years. McLaren Vale had an outstanding season in vintage 2022, with a return to average yields following several drought seasons — wonderful ripe fruit characters balanced by fine, long tannins.
Perfect mid-density colour with light purple tints. Lifted spice with dark cherry and plum characters on the nose, with background French oak. Ripe, blackberry, and pastille flavours dominate the flavour profile. Fine tannins from French oak balance the sweet fruit. A long finish of soft berry fruit makes for a delightful drink.
