Region: Tasmania
Grape:
Savagnin
First Glance:
Mineral, saline, pungent acidity
Acclaim: 95 Points

Joe Holyman crafts true cool-climate renditions of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay from his Stoney Rise winery the Tamar Valley in Northern Tasmania. The wines across the board are made in a lighter and lifted style, and see a good amount of whole-bunch fermentation to add structure and aromatic complexity, and really underpin that sense of crunchy freshness that characterises many of the wines from this region

Made in a modern, clean style, a far cry from the traditional oxidative Jura style. This plays on bright acid, subtle texture and Savagnin's saline and mineral edge.

The Review:
95 points, Gary Walsh, The Wine Front
(2021 vintage)
Grown near Devenport from the only grower in Tasmania.

Super expression of Savignan. So much sea spray, along with pear, gooseberry, almond meal. It delivers a good amount of flavour, but keeps tight, fine chalk dust texture, a bit umami too with some seaweed, oyster shell and sea spray (ahoy there matey!), and a precise and long finish. So good.
