Michael hall was originally in the business of valuating jewellery, working in his native London and in Switzerland. Wine had always been a passion, and at 40, Michael uprooted his life and career, and moved to Australia to pursue winemaking. A wine science degree later, and following a number of years working for iconic top producers both here and abroad in Burgundy and the Rhone valley, Michael now focuses entirely on his eponymous label.

Michael refers to his style of Sauvignon Blanc as a "Fume style" from "Fume Blanc", an expression coined by the late legendary Californian winemaker Robert Mondavi, used for oaked Sauvignon Blanc.

The fruit is sourced from two plots in the Adelaide hills between 500 and 550 meters elevation.
Hand-picked, destemmed, 8% fermented on skins, the remainder pressed and wild yeast fermented in French oak puncheons. Matured for eight months in barrel, filtered and bottled.

The review:
93 points, Mike Bennie, The Wine Front
(2020 vintage)
Michael Hall wines all come with a bit of pizzazz, I reckon. Good producer. Lots of great (and interesting) wines.

Distinct ‘fume style’ or so it seems. Sweet smoke, nougat, ripe citrus and candy banana scents, all of that very pleasant and in the mode of the style. Soft, rolling, gentle texture, great length, good intensity, suppleness, nougat and citrus flavours, bright acidity underlying. A little honey butter in mid palate is nice. It’s a generous but vibrant style. Done well.
