Luciano Sandrone is one of the most recognised estates in the Barolo region today. Historically leaning towards the more modern style of winemaking, which saw the light of day around the 1990's, with the introduction of French oak and shorter maceration times. In reality the estate employs a very balanced approach, the result being wines of power and intensity, but also of balance and finesse.

Roero is often over-shadowed by neighbouring Barolo and Barbaresco, but is capable of producing incredible Nebbiolo. Soils here are sandy and the wines as a result are more open-knit, have softer tannins and a more floral and red-fruited profile. Valmaggiore may be the most famous vineyard in Roero, a natural amphitheater with a south-facing exposure, allowing for incredibly pristine and ripe fruit.

The "Sibi et Paucis" bottlings are held back for a number of years, to be able to present mature wines to the market.

The Review:
93 points, Antonio Galloni, Vinous (tasted 2021)
The 2020 Nebbiolo d’Alba Valmaggiore is gorgeous. Crushed red berry, spice, leather, mint and rose petal all grace this exquisite, silky Valmaggiore. The aromatics alone are so beguiling, but all the elements are so nicely balanced. The 2020 is compelling today, but will be even better in another few years.
