Region: Etna - Sicily, Italy
Grapes:
Nerello Mascalese, Nerello Capuccio, Grenache
First glance: Crunchy, highly drinkable volcanic Etna red

Wines grown high on the black slopes of the active volcano Mt. Etna, have attracted a lot of attention from wine lovers and critics around the world in recent years, and for good reason.
This comes from a plot of bush vines of the Etna hero grape Nerello Mascalese interplanted with a smaller amount of Grenache, all sitting snugly at 980m above the Mediterranean.

Raised in stainless steel to preserve purity and freshness of the pristine fruit. This has a higher percentage (around 30%) of Grenache in the blend than the single vineyard Tartaraci, making for a less strict more approachable style.

The review:
"Call me Steve. A blend of Grenache and the two Nerellos grown near 1km above the level of the sea. Importer: Mezzanine

Fresh, bright, fine-boned style. It pops with amaro and orange peel, red cherry and raspberry. Light, fine dusty emery tannin feel to tannin, a little white pepper, sappy and sour cherry, brisk with a lovely rasp of dry stony tannin on a finish of good length. Delightful. A light touch in the winery too."
