Michael hall was originally in the business of valuating jewellery, working in his native London and in Switzerland. Wine had always been a passion, and at 40, Michael uprooted his life and career, and moved to Australia to pursue winemaking. A wine science degree later, and following a number of years working for iconic top producers both here and abroad in Burgundy and the Rhone valley, Michael now focuses entirely on his eponymous label.
Michael sources his Pinot Noir from a few sources in the Adelaide hills. The 2021 is purely Lenswood fruit, from an elevated and cool vineyard site. The fruit was hand-picked on the 17th and 19th of March, wild yeast fermented in open fermenter and closed puncheons, 50% was retained as whole bunches through fermentation to add spicy and structural elements, and the wine matured for 11 months in French oak (25% new).

Poached strawberry and rhubarb, plenty of spice, and a green olive/mescal whole bunch character. Medium-bodied, spicy red fruit with a blood orange zest, plenty of energy, a fine grip of emery tannin, and a sour cherry and grainy grip finish of good length. A bit tense, a bit sappy, but good Pinot Noir for me. Has character.
