Andrew 'Ox' Hardy is not just out of one of the most pedigreed and respected winemaking families in this country, he also has an enormous bag of experience to draw from when crafting these eponymous wines out of his personal SA wine project, based in the Blewitt Springs sub-region of McLaren Vale.
Having spent half a life time making region-expressive wines throughout Southern Australia, most notably spending 14 years as head winemaker for Petaluma in Adelaide Hills, Andrew also had stints in California, Oregon and Bordeaux along the way.
The new Ox Hardy wines are centered around the flag ship Upper Tintara vineyard in Blewitt Springs, McLaren Vale. The range features a number of varieties from the site, and also a neat cooler expression Adelaide Hills Chardonnay - as an homage to a region that has been so central to Andrew's career.

From the Upper Tintara Vineyard in Blewitt Springs - a higher elevated and therefore cooler spot in the McLaren, with a mix of sand, clay and iron gravel soils. Fermented and raised gently to not over extract tannin, and matured 18 months in second and third fill barrels before bottling.

The Review:
94 Pts,

Reserved, savoury bouquet at first. Yes, there are cool blackberries and blue plums (the colour of the label!) with sweet-scented velvety skin. Violets and bresaola. Then dark chocolate with candied orange peel flavours and lots of black pepper dust. A combination of cocoa with aromatic spice. Smoothly flowing in the sense of quality dark chocolate slab with great acidity and a rich but gentle grip. I’m also getting that asphalt feel, as Campbell mentioned in 2016 offering of this wine. Very tasty indeed."
