Monteleone is a small family business consisting of Giulia Monteleone, her partner Benedetto Alessandro and her father Enrico. Started in 2017, the young estate draws on the very special volcanic terroir found on the slopes of Mt Etna, Sicily, to make wines of structure and concentration.
The Etna Rosso, is the entry point to the estate's reds, and it perfectly represents what Etna wines are all about. A classic blend of mainly Nerello Mascalese with small amounts of N. Cappuccio supporting. The fruit is from a vineyard on the northern slopes of the volcano, at 500m altitude, and is raised in a mix of moderately sized oak for 12 moths before bottling.
The Best Cellars View:
A light towards medium bodied Etna Rosso with trademark freshness and assertive crunchy tannins. The nose holds red cherry, dried strawberry and a slight brambly edge, as well as hints of leather and oak spice. This has a bit more weight than some Rossos, which sets it apart from the crowd, and makes it very food friendly. Pairs effortlessly with red meats or grilled fare.
