The Wine:

Riesling is the Clare Valley’s signature variety and this wine is from the sixth vintage of clos Clare’s Riesling patch, adjoining the historic ‘Florita’ vineyard in Watervale. The 45-year-old dry grown vines were hand-harvested on the 19th of February and taken to The Wilson Vineyard at Polish Hill river, where they were chilled for 24 hours prior to whole bunch pressing and vinification.

This 2015 Watervale Riesling is a handmade wine that shows poise, elegance and character, which is indicative of this vineyard. The nose displays aromas of Granny Smith apples, lemon thyme and mandarin. The Palate has finesse, generosity and structure, with flavours of finger lime, blood orange and star fruit. Patience and bottle maturation will reward you with secondary characteristics of honey, marmalade and warm buttered toast.

The Review:
Gary Walsh, The Wine Front
"Touch of fenugreek-like stink, apple, sweet herbs, tangelo, peach and grapefruit. Big burst of flavour, juicy with grapefruit, but dry and gently chalky too. Has some citrus peel bitterness on the finish, almost like Chinotto, or similar. No shortage of personality. Very entertaining.”
