The 2020 vintage was yet another unique year on many levels. In the winery, the true beauty of the Pinot Noir from this year were not fully expressed until post malolactic fermentation. However, the reward was well worth the wait when wines of finesse revealed themselves.
Spice and herbs are once again evident on both the nose and palate, revealing the hallmarks of our vineyards. Dark cherry notes are also expressed and are reminiscent of Christmas pudding, yet the balanced freshness managed by delicate acidity maintains a beautiful elegance on the palate. Pinot Noir spice plays a part in delivering detail along the full length of the palate. The velvety suppleness of fruit is kept in check by fine tannins which also aid in the length of this wine.
Huon Hooke reviewed this wine as a 90/100 and said: "Very good depth of crimson colour with a tint of purple, and a subdued but subtly smoked-charcuterie like bouquet that calls for a big-bowl glass to expand in. Let it rest a while and cherries will roll forth. It’s medium to full-bodied and generously proportioned: a fine but quite intense pinot with excellent fruit, good ripeness and serious structure. This is impressive, and will no doubt grow in the bottle with a few months of patient cellar-time. The price is remarkable."
