Vincent Dancer Beaune 1er Cru Les Montrevenots Rouge 2017
As we have only recently started receiving an allocation of reds from this astonishingly talented cult grower, Vincent Dancer is known almost exclusively for his white Burgundies in Australia. We've long been admirers of Dancer's wonderful and very fairly priced reds and so have worked with Vincent to get an allocation as soon as it became possible. Those stars have now aligned and we can now offer these fabulous values in Australia.
On the Pommard boundary overlooking La Bas des Saucilles, Les Montrevenots sits high up the slope above Clos des Mouches. It's south-facing, which mitigates the vineyard's altitude. Dancer's parcel was planted in 1996. The white marl soils here are quite different from Dancer's other, rockier sites.
The overall feel from this site is one of perfumed prettiness and fleshy seduction. It's bright and deliciously perfumed, speaking loudly of the high-grown origins, with the kind of supple depth and transparency derived from Dancer's low yields and his meticulous work in the vines. Premier Cru Burgundy of this price and quality is becoming more than rare. Don't hesitate!
