The Wine

Deep purple-hued, and a serious, dark violet floral, cool climate shiraz nose: minced concentrated fruits, slatey rocks, some fine white and black pepper. The palate is medium bodied, tightly wound and savoury – a dusting of pepper on crushed blueberries comes to mind, with some almost smokey olive flesh lilts. Silty tannins to length, this is still a very young wine.

The Review

"This is the third vintage of shiraz off the estate Thorley vineyard which, as previously noted, sits at 820 metres. 87 dozen were produced this year.

Terrific cool climate shiraz. A truly beautiful wine. Sage, black cherry, woodsy-peppery spice, a veneer of smoked cedar wood, a gentle meatiness and then more berries, more fruit. Tannin laces its way through the back half of the wine; acidity keeps everything straight, not to mention juicy. It’s beautifully balanced and so, accordingly, it’s in great drinking shape already, right now. No hesitation on this one."
