The Judging Panel’s Chair, Steven Pannell, said that, overall, a very impressive group of wines was presented at this year’s show. “The 2022 Rieslings were particularly strong,” he said. “The stylish nature of these wines and the purity of their varietal character show the strength of the beautiful Clare Valley as a Riesling stronghold.
“It was also our great fortune to have one of the world’s foremost Riesling authorities, Stuart Pigott, judging this year’s show, with 2022 being one of the best Riesling vintages in twenty years.
Penna Lane is a small vineyard that consistently produces high quality wine. The vines hug the hillsides of the beautiful Skilly Valley, within the world-famous Clare Valley wine region of South Australia.
This wine is made from 30-year-old plus vines established in the rich red loam and limestone soils of the Watervale region, in the heart of the Clare Valley. The typical delicate citrus flavour is powered by flavours of lime juice yet the 2022’s are fleshy and plump that seems to be a hallmark of the vintage. A very pretty Riesling with sublime sherbet, fresh succulent acidity providing long length and more so age ability.
