The Wine:
The Massolino was founded in 1896, and it is one of the premier estates in the Serralunga sub-region of Barolo. Apart from making highly acclaimed wines, Massolino is significant for being the first producer to bottle a single-vineyard Barolo back in 1982 - something which is now very much in vogue, with the more recent official introduction of the MGA vineyard classification. The new rules offers producers the option of labelling their wines with specific vineyards or communes, as opposed to relying solely on house style and age designations to stand out from the crowd.

A fantastic new arrival from Massolino, this Nebbiolo is sourced from across the boundary in the nearby area of Barberesco, and  offers all of the hallmarks of this famed style. It is naturally brighter and lighter on its feet than their full-textured reds from Barolo, but retains the Massolino hallmark of impeccable finesse.

The Review:
Antonio Galloni, Vinous - 94pts
"The 2020 Barbaresco is a terrific follow up to the 2019. A wine of nerve and grace, the 2020 sizzles with energy. Finely sculpted red/purplish fruit, lavender, spice, crushed rocks and orange zest all grace this super-expressive, mid-weight Barbaresco. An explosion of sweet floral and spice notes lifts the gorgeous, beautifully perfumed, vibrant finish. I love the classicism here."
