Koerner are doing a brilliant job of showcasing a breadth of unique styles from Clare Valley, and, as I often catch myself saying, more or less single-handedly helping to reinvent it. While we like the big reds and piercing rieslings when done well, the kaleidoscope coming out from the Koerner brothers is something else, innovative, smart, using regional assets to eke out brilliant wines. This is from the ‘Grace’ section of the Gullyview Vineyard. It clocks in at 10.8% alcohol.
All produced in ceramic egg. From a fifty year old block of riesling. This site produces pronounced, acid driven riesling.
Tart, zingy, racy with a sheath of powdery, minerally texture around that. Squirts with impressive velocity across the palate, squeaky with its tart lime juice thing going on, with sprinkles of ginger, mint and almost a white vinegar like character, though that’s metered in the wine. Brisk, bright, vivacious. Mike Bennie Winefront
