The Wine:
Jean Foillard doesn’t need much introduction. His Côte du Py is as pure and captivating as Beaujolais gets. One of the iconic wines of contemporary France, the Côte du Py of Morgon is one of Beaujolais’ great vineyards and certainly its best known. Foillard is undoubtedly the master of this site. No one renders it with equal clarity, complexity or textural beauty.

Foillard’s rendition captures the wild cherry, mineral, and floral-tinged quality of the vineyard in an unparalleled way. He weaves silk into the texture and leaves the wine with haunting persistence and fragrance.

100% Gamay, grown on soils composed of shale and manganese, rich in iron oxide. Côte de Py is the jewel of the Morgon appellation, a slope of volcanic origin sitting at the heart of the appellation. P'tit Jean, as his friend’s call him, has farmed his vines organically since the beginning but has never sought certification. The rest is a matter of tradition: harvesting by hand, whole bunch vinification, carbonic maceration, maturation in old barrels for 9 months. Bottled at the Estate without fining nor filtration, just a micro-dose of sulphur.
