The Wines

"9 months on lees in old oak (a couple with whole fruit bunches inside too) then  9 months in bottle to relax as they were super sharp from the cool 2020 Vintage.  They are good to go for this summer methinks. Natural ferment, no fining but frickin' heaps of sulphur. I love it. It's in the parts per million range but still less than what you’d inhale walking the streets of Hong Kong for a week. About that much. Except of the blend which has way less. "

2020 Riesling 'South' - Derwent Valley - Single Vineyard - Meadowbank
"Lavender, juniper and herb perfume, rock salt, pear and citrus. It’s saline, fine dusty powdery texture, almost peppery in feel, a zesty tang, aniseed and lemon, with a very firm and tight finish of excellent length. Intense. Will need a few years, but the character of it, and the stuffing is top notch."

2020 Riesling 'East' - East Coast - Single Vineyard - Freycinet Vineyard
"Kaffir lime and citrus blossom, saline, green apple and lime. It’s tight, and juicy in lemon/lime flavour, with a fine powdery and chalky texture, but pure with it, a fine crunch and grip, classic styling with additional umami character, and a ‘mineral’ finish of good length. A bit of a dark horse. It should age beautifully."

2020 Riesling 'North' - Tamar Valley - Single Vineyard - “Confidential”
"Fragrant, floral, ironbark honey (or bees that do gum blossom kind of thing), preserved lemon, grapefruit. It’s fleshy, savoury, and fills the mouth, a chalky texture of thickness and weight, tangy with citrus zest and lemon Eno sort of flavour, and a thumping finish of density and length. Terrific. Distinctive. Unreal."

2020 Riesling 'Tasmania' - blend - UNFILTERED***
"This wine is a blend of the 3 single vineyard wines above but left unfiltered as a discussion point and is very much ALIVE. Be warned."
- Peter Dredge
"Not sure you’d pick it as a Riesling, but that’s no problem for me. This is a little wild, ultra-saline, floral and nutty, with a distinct fino character – falling more towards Jura than anything else. It has a gentle honeyed sweetness, salty tang, a fine powdery and chalky texture, umami flavours, citrus zest, and a long and nutty finish. So distinctive. It won’t be for everyone, but I find it compelling, and different. A big yes."
