First Glance: Pale, dry, red forest berries, lifted acidity

Domenica was started in 2012 by Peter Graham, formerly a winemaker at neighbouring Giaconda for 13 years. As it happens, some - a fair bit, of that stardust robbed off on the then young winemaker, who now crafts incredible Chardonnay, sumptuous Shiraz and elegant Nebbiolo, among others, from his own estate and vines.

There are a few gems on the Aussie pink wine scene these days, and the Domenica Nebbiolo Rose is one of them. Crafted with thought and a mind for food-friendliness, the wine is fermented by way of wild yeasts in old oak barrels, with very brief skin-contact and no malolactic conversion, for an elegant, lifted and vividly textured wine of the table.

While the 2022 has yet to be reviewed, this is what Gary Walsh of The Wine Front had to say about the 2021:

“Of the ’21 ‘Nebbiolo is a wonderful grape variety for rosato, and I often wish more producers from Piedmont would make one, though I ask and they kind of say, to paraphrase “Nebbiolo is for red wine, we have white wine for drinking if you want something lighter or cooler (you idiot).”

Such balance, wonderful fine powdery texture, a little floral and aniseed perfume, red cherry and blood orange, fresh acidity but softness in the mouth, with a long faintly spicy finish. This is outstanding. Yum.’  95 Points"
