Region: Margaret River Grapes: Cabernet Franc First Glance: Svelte, Violets, Ironstone Acclaim: 94pts
The Wine: The fruit is picked, carefully destemmed and kept as whole berries for fermentation. Gently handled and pressed after 12 days on skins to 500L French oak Puncheons. Aged for 14 months in 500L French Oak Puncheons, 40% of which were new. The larger barrels aid in retaining aromatics and fostering a more vibrant and primal energy.
Cabernet Franc is the shy little sister of the Bordelaise family: aromatic, soft textured and boasting pristinely fine tannin and drive. Subtle threads of violets, cherry blossom and fresh juniper berries serve as highlights to an ample tapestry of black plums, cacao nib and ironstone. Sheer textures of crushed granite and black cherry skin are laced with porcelain tannin and quenching natural acidity.
The Review: Gary Walsh, The Wine Front - 94pts "Redcurrant, blueberry and raspberry, baking spices, floral too, but also plenty of bay leaf perfume. It’s medium-bodied, plush tannin with something of a graphite/stone feel, clove and sage, a more svelte and expressive version of this wine, with plenty of dusty fine-grained tannin and bay leaf perfume on a long finish. It’s hard to get straight Cabernet Franc right, but DN are doing very well."
