Silex means flint and this wine is produced only from plots that possess high amounts of silex in the soil and that are located on the slopes of Saint Andelain. The vine age of these plots range mostly between 25 and 50 years and yields are kept lower than most other vineyards. Silex is barrel fermented and aged. Because of the rocky soils, this wine is always the most intense, regal, almost austere in personality when young, requiring a few years (at least) to begin truly expressing itself.
“The nose speaks first of precision, with the scents of preserved lemon and creamed orchard fruit. The palate is no less pure and precise, with a focused, laser-like definition at the start, along with exceptional balance and energy. The direction here is unparalleled, the wine clearly displaying some ripeness of fruit, but still with all the acid and mineral vivacity that we would expect from a cooler, fresher vintage. A stunning effort.”96-98 points, Chris Kissack, The Wine Doctor
