The Wine
In some years, the vineyard can produce some unexpected surprises and 2010 created one in particular. Upon deciding that a part of one of our Riesling blocks had reached optimum flavour-sugar balance, as is the norm, we picked it. We were ecstatic to taste the luscious, sweet-fruit palate of the free run juice, although more than a little surprised to discover its potential alcohol level! We decided to optimise what the vineyard had given us and make a select Riesling, with thoughts turning to the German Auslese style (meaning select harvest). We did select bunch by bunch as we made a Nektar with the botrytis affected fruit left to hang, we think this wine is a wonderful expression of our site.

The Reviews:

Deep, bright golden yellow colour with an intriguing nose of beeswax, lemon-curd, burnt lime and honey. Very complex, the palate rich and concentrated in flavour, quite sweet in the middle and yet finishing cleanly, with seamless acidity and soft phenolics. Sublime bouquet and flavour; long, long aftertaste. A gorgeous medium-sweet riesling.

From a parcel left to ripen and picked late, this has aromas and flavors of apricot, kumquat and tangelo with such impressive density to the palate and a long, driving showdown of acidity and sugar carrying a long finish. Drink or hold. Screw cap.
