First Glance: Mineral-driven and concentrated Chablis
Sebastien Christophe runs a small but high-quality operation, making wines from village and three select premier cru sites in Chablis. Vinification here is very typical for the region, with the vast majority of the wines raised in steel, with a small part of the premier cru juice seeing neutral oak, to impart a little bit of texture and breadth.
Montee de Tonnerre is undoubtedly one of the most highly regarded premier crus of the region. It sits right next to the famous grand cru slope, and largely matches their southwest exposure, giving generous and structured wines with serious mineral edge and great ageing potential.
Due to frost, yields across the region in 2021 were some of the lowest in living memory, so naturally volumes are very limited. The quality of what made it through, however, was excellent.
