Vincent Mercier has tended his vineyard since 2005 and built a brand new winery in 2013 which was adapted to his needs for organic wine making. It often raises a smile when we say that we buy organic wines despite the fact that they are organic, but it is a true statement. We have to taste a lot of wines undergoing secondary fermentation to find an organic wine from Bordeaux which makes us sit up and pay attention but this is a real pearl.
The wine begins with aromas of blackberries, cherries and red currants which come together with herbs, fresh florals and minerals. Medium-bodied with a lovely velvety texture that grips nicely leaving behind a mouthful of juicy red fruits lingering. While this will need a bit more time to flesh out, there is certainly potential for this to evolve beautifully over the next few years.
