A small family run winery and vineyard based in La Morra, The Obertos have sixteen hectares of vineyards and produce a brilliant 'village' Barolo as well as 2 from the different 'crus' of Rocche dell'Annunziata and Albarella. The wines are beautifully focused and age well, although immensely approachable in their youth as there is a deliciously juicy and generous feel that runs through all the wines.
The joy of drinking Barbera is that it delivers wines with a deep fruitiness and this is a great example. Andrea's version explodes from the glass with blackberry, black cherry, violets and dark chocolate. In the mouth it is slick and rich, with a bite of acid to ensure the whole thing doesn't become too much. There are tannins for structure that never overwhelm and then that deeply chocolately, black fruited intensity with a delicate florality playing in the background.
