Vincent Dureuil-janthial Bourgogne Rouge 2017

| /

Vincent Dureuil crafts a cracking Bourgogne rouge and this is certainly the finest we have shipped. Traditionally this Estate bottling derives from several parcels in the Côte de Nuits, principally in the communes of Prémeaux (0.5 hectares) and Puligny (0.34 hectares). The average age of the vines is now over 40 years, and the quality of the wine is everything you’d expect it to be from this grower in a top vintage. Expect a racy Pinot, packed with red cherry and amaro-noted fruit, backed up with hints of spicy, classy oak, a pinch of lacy tannins and a juicy, perfumed close. A great success for the level.

“The 2017 Bourgogne Pinot Noir is chewier and more structured than the Passetoutgrain, unfurling in the glass with notes of spicy red berry fruit, dark chocolate and candied peel, followed by a medium to full-bodied, layered palate with tangy acids and a long, savory finish. This will reward a couple of years in bottle.” 88+ points, William Kelley, The Wine Advocate

Outstanding. This too is markedly peppery and earth-inflected on the somber dark currant-suffused nose that evidences hints of the sauvage. There is better volume and particularly better mid-palate density to the attractively textured flavors that possess unusually good power on the rustic but complex finale. This possesses fine quality and is worth checking out.” 87 points, Allen Meadows, Burghound
