A family-led winery in the Willunga foothills of McLaren Vale, strongly focused on sustainability throughout the entire operation, Hedonist is not just a staple of the Best Cellars range, but likewise a sure-fire value option for those who like deftly crafted, easy-to-drink and varietally expressive wines. The team in the cellar is Walter Clappis, a veteran winemaker of 36 vintages, daughter, Kimberly and her partner James Cooter. All of the Hedonist wines are made with certified organic and biodynamic fruit, with biodynamic preparations and organic compost made on-site. The range focusses on accessible and skilfully made varietal expressions, tweaked with subtle technique to bring out the best qualities in each.  Vegan friendly.

The Hedonist Shiraz is one of our top selling wines in it's pricebracket, and for good reason - it's simply very hard to go wrong with this smooth but not over-ripe, medium bodied McLaren Vale expression. The fruit comes from estate grown certified organic/biodynamic vineyard in the Willunga foothills, as well as from various organic and biodynamic vineyards in the Sellicks Foothills, Blewitt Springs and Kangarilla – all from vastly different soil profiles and aspects across the McLaren Vale district. Aged solely in previously used French barrels, to ensure a balanced oak imprint that will not over-power the wine.

The Wine
Deep red with purple hues. Overtly aromatic, starting with cocoa scent, through tapenade to whispers of violet and lavender perfume.

Generous and complex. Fine powdery tannins support the structure while augmenting the ensuing surge of fruit.
