The Wine

Planted by Arturo and Kike and considered by them to be a vital part of their contribution to collection of vineyards that will eventually be passed on to the next generation. Paso Las Manas is planted directly against the edge of the Cantabrian mountains National Park, at the very limit to the high northern edge of Rioja. Graciano, Viura and Garnacha won't ripen this high so it's the only vineyard that is straight varietal Tempranillo.

The Review

"A vineyard doesn't have to be old to make great wines, as this 3.9-hectare parcel, planted at 720 metres in Samaniego as recently as 2013 demonstrates. Balanced, chalky, racy and refreshing, with chiselled acidity, understated oak influence, bramble, blackberry and cranberry fruit and a long, tapering finish." 94 points, Tim Atkin, MW
