Region: Tenerife Grapes: Pais/Misson/Listan Prieto First Glance: Graphite Minerals, Popping Red Fruit, Ripe Tannin
The Wine: Listan Prieto (aka Pais, Misson) is grown in the same village as Benje blanco but at slightly lower elevations and marginally more humid conditions. The vines here sit on pumice-like volcanic gravel. Fermented in concrete and aged in used 350l barrels. On the nose it's wonderfully complex and exotic, baked terracotta, annato and wildflower sitting alongside gun-powder-smoke and iodine. Listan Prieto gives more texture and fruit weight than the other varietals found on Tenerife, giving Benje Tinto a plush, velvety texture that gives way to the hallmark graphitic-volcanic minerality of Tenerife.
